I am a former student of Ms. Liethen’s. She came into my place of work with a friend and was so surprised to see me. Ms. Liethen worked with me from third grade to 8th grade. She was so nice and always worked very hard with me to help me with my speech. She said we were a team and that we were going to do this together. I will never forget how much fun I had and as a college student my speech is smooth. I still use what she taught me when I feel anxious or nervous. I am so happy she asked me to do this for her.
During the pandemic, my child was not getting the services she needed when she was in preschool, plus, it was very difficult to have her therapy on the computer. A friend of mine said she would ask a friend of hers for help. Ms. Liethen observed my daughter in our home and adjusted her goals as she had many sounds that she couldn’t do. My daughter made amazing progress with Ms. Liethen very quickly. Ms. Liethen always took the time with me to talk about letters and sounds. She shared with me when specific sounds should be in at certain ages in a child’s development. She also taught me a lot about how sounds are made, drew pictures to show me what it looks like, how the voice is used and air. I never realized all that goes into speech. She was always patient, kind and very positive. My daughter really enjoyed her time with Ms. Liethen. I would highly recommend her.
We have known Mary for over 8 years as a friend but have just recently started working professionally with our 7 year old son. Our son had a rough start to kindergarten as it was full-time zoom. He started struggling with his sight words and fell behind with reading. Mary is amazing with our son. She keeps him engaged and really takes time to know and understand what kind of a learner he is. Mary is very flexible with her sessions and will modify or adapt based on how my son is responding. You can tell she gives 110% to all of her students and the results are obvious with my son. He is catching up to his current grade level and I see him using the strategies Mary has taught him while sounding out words. Mary truly is a gem and we are so thankful to have her on our team!
